Our History
Sprouts & Blossoms was founded from both professional experience and deeply personal understanding. Throughout my life, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by children with developmental, behavioral, and emotional differences, as well as the immense burden carried by the families who love them. Time and again, I watched wonderful children and devoted parents be unfairly judged as moral failures because others misunderstood their needs, behaviors, or circumstances.
That persistent ache in my heart became the inspiration for Sprouts & Blossoms. I envisioned a place where families could walk through the door knowing they would be seen, valued, and supported, not blamed. A place where parents would be met with understanding instead of judgment, and where children would be recognized for their strengths rather than defined by their challenges.
As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with extensive experience supporting children and families, I understood the critical importance of early intervention and kindergarten readiness. I searched extensively for a program that combined developmental support, family partnership, and a relationship-centered approach, but I could not find one that fully met the need I was seeing in my community.
Many children are directed toward services that focus primarily on compliance and behavior management because those are the options most readily available through insurance systems.
Sprouts & Blossoms was created to offer an alternative rooted in connection, understanding, developmental science, and respect for the whole child. Our philosophy recognizes that lasting growth comes from relationships, emotional safety, skill-building, and intrinsic motivation.
Inspired by Grand Rapids Community College's Early Childhood Learning Laboratory and other programs, Sprouts & Blossoms embraces a whole-child, whole-family model. We believe that children thrive when families are supported, empowered, and included in the process. Our goal is to provide high-quality developmental and educational services that prepare children for success from infancy, to kindergarten, and beyond while creating a welcoming community where every family feels understood and valued.
Today, Sprouts & Blossoms continues to pursue its mission of helping children build the skills, confidence, and connections they need to flourish, while ensuring that families never have to navigate those challenges alone.
